1) I have been sent a picture of a Tyzack tool shop that recently closed in Catford. The sign says "Parker Tyzack ". My informant implied that the Old Street shop of Parry Tyzack had closed.

2) Also closed 1999 was the DEMA Glassworks site in Newcastle. Tyzacks and Hennezels opened this as a glassworks in Lemington, as part of the Northumberland Glassworks in 1790.

3) William Tyzack

Henry Tyzack moved from Sheffield to Shoreditch, London around 1839 soon after the railway route between the two opened up. He moved there to sell his saws in the booming streets of furniture making in Shoreditch. He married Sarah Story in 1830 but according to all the records I have his eldest son, Samuel, was born in 1833. There seemed a big gap. Then one day I was given a faded scrap of paper on which had been written Henry's childrens' family tree. To my surprise it started with William Tyzack born 1830 and SHOT in USA!

This started me off on the Internet to see if I could find any evidence of William in USA.

He would have been shot of course between 1850 to say 1890. Within days a lady came back with a William Tyzack in a census in Eastchester, New York aged 36 in 1851 who was a china decorator. At first I thought I had struck gold. But it was not to be. This William I eventually traced to a baptism in Burton-on-Trent, the pottery district. His mother's name was Louisa, the same as one of his daughters, and another was named Mary the same as his sister's name. William married Elizabeth but I could not find that in England.

I never did find the William who was shot in USA but it did discover this other Tyzack origin in USA.

Got it!
He got into debt, in St Louis. The Magistrates authorised the constable to enter his premises and recover goods to the value of the debt. Later the kind woman from the local cemetery sent me his certificate of burial.

Mark Tyzack descendents

"Du Thisacs"

I have recently been contacted by a descendent of Mark Tyzack. Mark was a die sinker and he lived at Four Lane Ends in Sheffield. (See my book "Glass, Tools & Tyzacks" Page 147.)

Mark's descendent has a cousin who lives in Sydney, Australia, named Geraldine du Thisac Rynkewicz. Geraldine has an antique shop there.

The name of the shop is "Du Thisacs"
